We’ve been so lucky to have a healthy child. She’s been happy, healthy and joyful since day one. But we still have to take her to the Doctor to get checked up regularly.
We are just past our 18 month check up mark so it was time for a check-up so off we went. The ugly part about it is the shots, she was due 3 shots for this routine visit. But we are again lucky that Claire is such a trooper.
She has never made a big deal about shots except for the first time, she cried for 3 or 5 minutes. After that most of the time she just cringes a little and maybe cries for a second or two. This time you could tell that she felt the shots.
It makes you a little sad when you see your kid in pain but you also can’t get too hung up about it in t his case because it’s for their own benefit. the good thing is that after the 12 or 18 month check up, the check-ups decrease in frequency.
I think a big part of how a doctor appointment goes (or any other dreaded medical visit) with your kid, depends on how you’re going to handle it. Don’t freak out, try not to show fear, be comforting and try to keep their mind and body occupied before and after the event.
I’ve tried to make everything as fun or entertaining as possible since day one. From changing the diaper to getting in the car. I make everything interesting or exciting –at least I try to.
So in the case of a doctor visit, especially with shots, one of the things I always do is plan to do something different after the appointment. Whether is a trip to the lake to feed the ducks, a walk at a new park, a messy activity or just going to a new place for lunch.
So this is no exception. We headed to the doctor, got the work done there and then went to lunch to a nearby strip mall to eat. The reason I picked this place too is because there’s a lot of visual stimulation and a big grassy hill next to a water fountain.
The only new thing this time is papidaddy.com so I decided to make a little vlog about today. Here it is, hope you enjoy it.
Water and open space… two of Claire’s favorites. Hopefully your next doctor visit goes without a hitch! Until next time!
