Thank you for taking the time to watch. But more importantly thanks for letting me know you like them and all that. It makes me feel great inside, but…
I have a little secret to tell you. Many of those videos, I didn’t make. Well, it’s not a secret. Just watch and you’ll be able to tell the difference.
Google’s videos are short and only have music. Mine are a bit longer and have titles and sometimes you hear people’s dialogue or the background noise.
Think of Google’s autoawesome videos as highlight reel from a day’s worth of photos and videos. They’re perfect to recap a day’s event or special event like a dinner reception or something like that.
Google photos will take your home movies to a new level. Just let get your photos and videos to your google photos account and you’ll be set.
All the “Year in Photos” from Google that you’ve seen around on Facebook and Twitter and Google + are #autoawesome videos.
Everybody seems to like Google’s Autoawesome videos. I don’t know how it does it but it knows when there’s an interesting part on a video. It knows when to cut away and pan in and when to cut to a wide angle vs a close up.
It’s like magic.
Of course, I know how it’s done, but I don’t know how it’s done. Google with its vast knowledge of images and videos and what people like to watch and don’t like to watch has figured out a way to identify those moments in movies and pictures and bring them into your movies.
So here’s how you make your own Autoawesome movies.
Get a Google account if you don’t already have one.
Then go to Google photos. You may have to accept their terms and join Google +, sign away your first born, agree to 10% of your lifetime income and other things like that.
But, you’ll get to make #autoawesome awesome videos.Well, Google will make them for you.
Nope, you can’t edit them. Nope, you can’t change the clips in them. And no you can’t change the music either. You can’t edit them. You could technically download them and then edit them with a movie editor, but that kinda defeats the whole purpose.
Get your first autoawesome project going.
After you get your Google account (seriously? you didn’t have one?), create a folder and throw in 25 to 50 photos and five to ten minutes of videos. Upload those into an album in your Google photos account http://google.com/photos.
Wait and after a day or so you’ll have new Autoawesome items in your account. I have seen autoawesome movies made in as little as 3 hours but usually they take a day or two. Just be patient, it doesn’t always do it but if you provide enough photos and videos in one folder chances are you’ll get a couple of things made automatically for you.
Google will even email you when something is ready for you to review. This is perfect for the Holidays too! Just make sure you take lots of photos and video clips.

If you’re going to start taking new video or pictures for this then please accept these two tips:
Tip 1, keep video clips short. Four seconds to 50 seconds work out really great, one to two minutes are fine too as long as you have a variety of them.
Tip 2. for video, take video horizontally (landscape mode). It will give you better results with special effects, edits and cuts.
I’d love to see what you come up with when you try it. Let me know here or on Youtube so I can watch your videos.
