I did my duty voting and because the kids were so good during the wait in line, I took them to a new playground. This time we went to Orchard Park, in Irvine.
Orchard park brought good memories to me because I used to play basketball here when I was in high school. I never paid much attention to the playground area until now.
But the playground here is really cool. We’ve now gone back several times because it’s one of the best city playgrounds in Irvine. Orchard has two different sections, one geared towards smaller kids, probably 2 – 5 year olds and another section for older kids, my guess is that the older kids area is intended for 4 year olds and older.

As you can see in the video below, the place is really well shaded and this makes it one of our favorite spots. Even though the quality of most parks in Irvine is superb, one thing most of them lack is shade. But this playground is full of great trees that provide really nice shade.
Just in case, here’s a map to the location. The address is 1 Van Buren, Irvine 92620.
We still use sunblock, and recommend you do too, because you should. But it’s nice to play and hangout with out the blazing sun on your face.
The only negative thing about the park, is that one of the playground areas is pretty close to the road. There are hedges and a sidewalk before you get to the street, but it still feels really close so keep an eye on your little explorers.
There are bathrooms conveniently near the playground area, and if you wanted to, you could even have a picnic on the tables nearby. There are lots of benches as well if you want to take a load off your feet and keep an eye on your kids from a distance.
Claire’s favorite was the big tire swing that is in the big kids area. Oliver’s favorite was the big kids’ structure and the slides there. Enjoy the video!
