A few weeks ago we celebrated Grandpa’s birthday. Everyone had a blast. Grandma, Aunt R., and @Cartarsauce took care of the food. This is also where the Korean Tacos video came from that I just published recently.
We had korean tacos, a seafood mix and a pretty slick fruit cake. Not like a bread and icing cake, but literally a fruit cake.
From that day came out Vlog #6 which you’ll find below. But before we jump into that, I wanted to give you a quick message.
This is for parents and their parents. Sometimes we have differences and we disagree. But that’s part of the game; that is life. When Claire was born our lives changed completely, there’s no doubt about that. But what kind of changes have transpired is the key to my message.
One of the things that I think really changed was that we all became a little closer. She’s a little bit like a glue that has brought us together. She has brought me closer to Helen’s family and Helen is closer to my family.
I also point this out because I think it is important. If we really want to change the world, then we must start within. We have to be the mentors and lead by example. I remember a quote I read not too long ago:
Children have never been very good at listening to their elders, but they have never failed to imitate them.”
― James Baldwin
When a family has a child, this is an opportunity for everyone to drop the issues, the differences, and reboot life. Being close to your family can make the difference between success and failure. What a great example it will be for our kids if we can always put aside our differences to sit down and share a meal.
I know many people that will not see their parents or family for years because of some petty issue they had so long ago. Sometimes it’s the perceived lack of money that keeps us apart. Even a simple misunderstanding can create great divides. You know why right? Our egos.
That’s not how it is supposed to go.
You don’t need a fancy party to celebrate. You don’t need an expensive meal. You just need to be there. Be accepting, understanding, and patient. After all, what else do you have to do? What is more important than your family, and the now?
You are supposed to have moments like this. And remember it’s not the money that makes things happen, it’s you that makes things happen. You don’t need to wait for anything.
Go be with your family. Go and be happy. Go change the world. Go and celebrate, for life is good! Go.
