So I’ve recently about 5 weeks ago started a weight loss challenge with myself. My goal is to lose 45 lbs by January 1st, 2015. This is an update on my weight loss journey.
So far so good and I’m very excited about the progress. It’s a shame that I even have to be in this position, but now that I am where I am I might as well make the best of it and turn it into a positive.
So I started at about 228lbs and I’m now around 215. I haven’t weighed myself in 4 days because I was out of town at a conference called Affiliate Summit. More on that later.
But I am very proud to say that even in a hectic environment like Affiliate Summit, and away from home I was able to control my food intake which is the most important part of a diet. In some cases I had to eat stuff I wouldn’t normally eat while on this diet but I was able to make the best of it.
And I must confess that I did cheat a little because I had about 5 street hotdogs, but I mean it’s New York. Those are mandatory from what I understand. And they were awesome so I don’t regret them one bit. Besides that, the progress in general should be on target.
I’ll be weighing myself in an hour or so and will see the real damage, but I expect to see the same weight I was 4 days ago or less. I really think managed to do that.
Here’s one of those reminders that helps you stay motivated and on track. I’ll tell you more about it later but it really helps to have the right tools to help you achieve your goals. Like in this journey for me, I use a number of tools to help me.
I’m using a combination of Withings devices and then I use the Runkeeper app in combination with the My Fitness Pal app. All of these devices and apps talk to each other so I get a really great view of my progress or lackthereof.
It’s a bonus that Runkeeper has all these cool motivational reminders like this one. Withings has the Healthmate app which makes this fun too by telling you when you’ve achieved various things. For example, the one I just got is pictured below.
So it is totally important to surround yourself with the right people, the right tools and the right resources to set you up for success.
In doing all this, I’m also educating Claire about a healthy diet and exercise. Even at her age I want her to be active and feel like being active is the norm. I think it will definitely help in the long run to help her stay healthy and fit.
Of course in doing walks and exercises I get to spend time with her and teach her and bond which is always good in the early years anyway. What’s really cool as a side effect is that Claire likes to weigh herself now and she knows how to use the body analyzer. So it’s really cool that eventually she’ll be able to see her own chart and it goes back to her birth. That is awesome if you ask me.
I’m happy to report that I not only didn’t gain weight during my trip, but I actually lost about 3 pounds! I left weighing in around 211 and this morning I weighed myself at 208. That makes me happy. See you next time.
