I recently purchased two identical phones for my kids. When I try to install apps remotely from the Google Play store, it's hard to tell which phone is which because their names are identical.

There is an easy way to fix this. So parents, if you have this same little problem, here's how you fix that.

How To Rename Android Devices in the Google Play Store.

  • Go to the device settings page from Google Play. This is the link: https://play.google.com/settings
  • Click on the right-hand side where you see an “Edit” button, then you can edit the Nickname column.
  • Change the nickname to whatever you'd like, then click the “Update” button.
My devices settings screen from the Google Play store. 2 arrows are indicating where the edit button and the nickname column are. It shows nickname, visibility, maker, model, carrier, last used and registered on columns. And edit buttons for each device. 6 devices are shown, most details are blurred.

This is really useful when you're trying to install an app because the nickname is used to pick which device you'll install it to.

It's also useful when you use the Find my device feature. It clearly shows their name there so you can locate a device, ring it, or lock it and reset it if needed.
